MS-SQL 2000 – Attunity’s Change Data Capture (=CDC) technology with some MS REPLICATION help.

As already stated, MS Transaction LOG is maintained primarily for recovery needs.
Full UPDATE logging is not required for a successful recovery.
Consequently – under normal MS-SQL operation – only partial minimal UPDATE logging is done – keeping track on ‘Delta’ changes.
However – Attunity’s CDC standard relies on full UPDATE logging.
Fortunately – as REPLICATION is turned on for a database table – UPDATE is fully logged by MS-SQL – in a format which is consumable by Attunity’s CDC.
Attunity’s CDC solution takes advantage of this fact for complying with its own underlying CDC standards.
This is done by introducing a REPLICATION with a minimal foot print which is applied on CDC-ed tables.
