ORACDC514E:Failed to add redo log with sequence xxx

Oracle CDC instance has started but then goes to status LOGGER with status message "Trying to retrieve next change record from source database".

    The trace shows entries
    • type ERROR ORACDC514E:Failed to add redo log with sequence xxx
      • where xxx is a value one more than the current log sequence on the Oracle database

    • type TRACE ORACDC000T:Error encountered at set position - EOF simulated
    • type ERROR ORACDC511E:The Oracle CDC failed to position

    What causes this?

    Hi,

Has anyone seen this post or have any idea where i go from here?

I've confirmed that privileges on Oracle are as documented in https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql...cle-user-roles

    Regards,

    Dear John,

The support for the Change Data Capture for Oracle is handled by Microsoft. However, if you let me know the versions you are using we may be able to point you to a specific ServicePack.
What version of SQLServer and Change Data Capture you are running in this environment?
In addition Oracle version and setup (is it RAC, Standby?)?

    Thanks,
    Adeeb Mass'ad

    Thanks Adeeb,

Oracle Database 12c Enterprise Edition Release 12.1.0.2.0 - 64bit Production
    Microsoft SQL Server 2017 (RTM-CU13) (KB4466404) - 14.0.3048.4 (X64)
    CDC version 5.0.0.0

I don't know about RAC or Standby (I'll ask), but i was told today that they are using ASM (Automatic Storage Management)?

    Regards,

    John M

    Hi John,

CU14 is fairly new, so you need to check if you have also updated the Change Data Capture to the latest Build.
If you right-click on xdbcdcsvc.exe in the installation directory -- "C:\Program Files\Change Data Capture for Oracle by Attunity".
The build number should be at least 5.0.0.110. If it's not you have to update it and retest.

If you still face any further issues you need to open a case at Microsoft support.

Note: In the recent build there are several improvements especially for RAC environments.

    Thanks,
    Adeeb

    HI Adeeb,

The problem turned out to be a missing privilege on the Microsoft documentation. Once the LOGMINING privilege was granted to the Oracle user, the CDC process started working.

    John Minihan
