XML documents declare their encoding the in XML prolog line (the first line of the XML document) - for example, the following XML document:

[?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?]

declares its encoding to be ISO-8859-1 (ISO Latin).

AIS generally recognizes all accepts its codepage names as valid XML encoding names. However, only codepages of the current language (as configured) are recognized. In addition, common XML alias names are accepted for most codepages.
