FAQ: Why do I get an error when dropping the Microsoft SSIS Oracle components?

Q Why do I get an error when dropping the Microsoft SSIS Oracle Source or Destination components on the Data Flow Desginer?

A This could be caused by many factors, here is a basic check list:
    1. Problems occurred during the installation of the Microsoft SSIS Connector for Oracle.
    Review the installation troubleshooting document.
    2. The SQL Server Integration service was not restarted.

Restart the SQL Server Integration service from the Administrative Tools->Services.
    3. Using a non RTM version of the following software products

    • Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 SP1
    • Microsoft SQLServer 2008
    • Microsoft .NET Framework v3.5 SP1
    4. Installing Visual Studio 2008 SP1 after installing the SQLServer 2008.

There are some known Microsoft issues because of shared components between the two products. Consult Microsoft KB for possible solutions.
    5. Installing the wrong kit for the specific platform.

Make sure to install the suitable kit for the product, there are X86, X64 and Itanium IA64 kits for the Microsoft SSIS Connector for Oracle.
