    Using COMACX without registration

    Q. How can I use the COMACX component without registering it?

    A. Normally, to use a COM component such as COMACX.DLL you need to register it using:

    $ regsvr32 comacx.dll
    In order to use this component without registration, follow these steps:
    1. Assuming your program is called ACXDEMO.exe,
    2. Copy COMACX.dll to the same directory as ACXDEMO.exe
    3. Create a text file called ACXDEMO.exe.manifest with the following contents:

    HTML Code:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>
    <assembly xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v1" manifestVersion="1.0">
        <file name="comacx.dll">
        <comClass description="AcxClient Class"
            clsid="{199BF2FF-8929-440B-953B-C132B2474061}"
            progid="COMACX.AcxClient"
            threadingModel="Both"
            tlbid="{B6B2A62A-7D1E-4467-BD6B-03B8837A22F3}"/>
        </file>
    </assembly>
    Now you can run your program and it will load the COMACX component without registration.

    Note: this method requires Windows XP SP2 or later.
